Tully Gorge Road Upgrade
Location: Tully Gorge Road
Client: Cassowary Coast Regional Council
Project Overview:
Stratos Civil have been working with the Cassowary Coast Regional Council on their Minor Culvert Program and works have ben in progress for the Tully Gorge Road, one of six sites Stratos Civil have been engaged by Cassowary Coast Regional Council to upgrade aged culvert structures.
Scope of Works:
Following recent cyclone event up Far North Queensland, weather forecasts indicated fine weather for approximately one to two weeks within the Cassowary Coast Region.
With the side track already constructed at Tully Gorge Road the crew were able to mobilise to site and commence excavation last week, with intent to set up and pour culvert slab later that week.
The natural subgrade surface underside of the culvert was unsuitable which required replacement with rock mattress wrapped in geofabric. This increased the excavation depth, which required additional excavation and benching to ensure workers had safe working space and that there was no risk of trench collapse.
Project Progress:
The culvert slab was poured early this week despite imminent inclement weather events with bypass pumping set up to keep surface dry. Cassowary Coast Regional Council worked diligently with Stratos Civil through the process to inspect site and authorise remediation to natural surface to ensure works were completed in a timely manner.
