Mossman Cane Weighbridge Foundation
Mossman Cane Weighbridge Foundation
Location: Mossman, Douglas Shire, QLD
Client: MSF Sugar

Project Overview:
Stratos Civil delivered the full civil works package for the new Mossman Cane Weighbridge Foundation, supporting MSF Sugar’s operational upgrade to improve throughput and vehicle efficiency during crushing season. The project required detailed excavation, precision concrete works and high-standard pavement construction to support heavy vehicle access and long-term durability.

Scope of Works:
Geotechnical investigation to confirm subsurface conditions
Detailed excavation for the weighbridge foundation footprint
Formwork, reinforcement placement and concrete pour for the main foundation
Formwork, reinforcement and concrete pour for the weighbridge approach ramps
Import, placement and compaction of Type 2.1 roadbase for the access track
Installation of chainwire mesh fencing for site security and controlled access
Challenges & Solutions:
High accuracy foundation tolerances
→ Used survey-controlled set-out and checked reinforcement placement to ensure millimetre precision before concrete pour.
Variable soil conditions near the original cane-rail alignment
→ Undertook a geotechnical assessment and adjusted excavation depths and compaction procedures accordingly.
Operational constraints of an active sugar mill
→ Coordinated deliveries and concrete pours around mill operations to minimise disruption and maintain safe access for MSF Sugar personnel.

Project Outcome:
The weighbridge foundation was completed to engineering specifications with a high-quality concrete finish and fully compacted access pavement. The new structure improves vehicle flow and provides MSF Sugar with reliable, long-term weighing capacity ahead of the next crushing season. All works were delivered safely, accurately and within the client’s project schedule.
