Mossman Cane Transfer Station
Mossman Cane Transfer Station
Location: Mossman, Douglas Shire, QLD
Client: MSF Sugar

Project Overview:
Stratos Civil was engaged by MSF Sugar to deliver the civil infrastructure works for the Mossman Cane Transfer Station upgrade. The project required precise geotechnical validation, subgrade preparation, stormwater installation, service conduits, and the construction of a reinforced concrete hardstand and vertical retaining structures.
The works supported MSF Sugar’s operational upgrade program and were delivered under tight sequencing requirements to minimise site downtime.

Scope of Works:
Geotechnical investigation and verification for design compliance
Stripping of surface materials and stockpiling for re-use or removal
Trimming and compaction of the subgrade to achieve design levels
Installation of stormwater drainage pipes and precast pits
Electrical and communications conduit installation
Formwork, reinforcement placement and pouring of concrete hardstand pavement
Formwork, reinforcement placement and casting of vertical concrete walls
Challenges & Solutions:
Operational environment with active sugar industry traffic
→ Coordinated staging and access management to maintain safe movement of vehicles and equipment.
Precise tolerances required for the hardstand and structural walls
→ Utilised strict survey controls and QA inspections throughout reinforcement and concrete placement.
Limited working footprint adjacent to existing assets
→ Adopted compact formwork systems and sequenced concrete pours to maximise working space.

Project Outcome:
The Mossman Cane Transfer Station upgrade was delivered safely, within program, and in full compliance with MSF Sugar’s engineering requirements. The new reinforced concrete hardstand and structural walls provide increased durability, improved drainage performance, and long-term reliability for high-volume cane transfer operations.
