Burdekin DRFA Reconstruction Works
DRFA Reconstruction Works
Location: Burdekin Shire, QLD
Client: Burdekin Shire Council

Project Overview:
Stratos Civil delivered the DRFA Package 3 reconstruction works for Burdekin Shire Council following significant weather impacts across the region. The project focused on restoring drainage function, improving pavement performance, and reinstating safe road conditions through targeted formation grading and drainage remediation.
Works were delivered under strict DRFA requirements with full documentation, QA, and staged inspections to ensure compliance with State and Federal disaster recovery standards.

Scope of Works:
Implementation of erosion and sediment control
Desilting and clearing of table drains
Medium formation grading
Heavy formation grading incorporating Type 2.4 roadbase material
Challenges & Solutions:
Widespread flood-related damage
→ Conducted detailed inspections to prioritise drainage and pavement reinstatement.
Mixed existing pavement conditions
→ Applied heavy formation grading with imported Type 2.4 roadbase to re-establish structural integrity.
Silted and blocked drainage
→ Completed extensive table drain clearing to restore flow capacity and protect road shoulders.
Environmental sensitivity
→ Implemented erosion and sediment controls throughout the works to protect adjacent waterways.

Project Outcome:
The DRFA Package 3 works reinstated safe access and improved drainage function across the Burdekin road network. Road formation, surface condition and runoff performance were significantly enhanced, reducing future maintenance and improving resilience for upcoming wet-season events.
All activities were completed in accordance with DRFA specifications, council requirements, and best-practice environmental controls.
